LKNB Holiday Truck Arrives in New Orleans
Monday, 21 December 2009 21:18
Mike Ellis
This year's holiday truck has officially landed in the 7th Ward as of 11:00 a.m. EST this morning, December 21st, 2009. Pastor Bruce was busy distributing items to community members and described the truck as "AWESOME!" The donations we received from Ithaca area residents were amazing, including 5 refrigerators, 5 stoves, many lovely dressers, couches, beds, gifts for youth, clothes, and much, much more! Special thanks to Mama Goose, who donated oodles of clothes and toys, and who gave us a central location for gift donation in the community! Special thanks also to Caroline Elementary School and the Nilsen-Hodges family who came through with some amazing gifts for youth to make their holiday season brighter. And HUGE thanks to the intrepid volunteers who loaded the truck on a chilly Saturday at the height of holiday busy-ness. We are still requesting financial donations to help offset the cost of this truck and to help us continue our work of "bridge-building" between our community and the 7th Ward. If you are moved to contribute, please send a check, made out to Love Knows No Bounds to: Love Knows No Bounds, P.O. Box 196, Trumansbug, NY 14886. Many thanks to our many supporters, near and far, for all of your support over the years. New Orleans still needs us, and you help us be there for them. Happy holidays, Mike Ellis Executive Director

Couple married 47 years is finally back home, thanks to strong will and help from volunteers by Sheila Stroup, Columnist, The Times-Picayune Sunday June 28, 2009, 5:00 AM For five weeks, St. Bernard Project volunteers worked in shifts, starting at 7 a.m. and finishing at 9 p.m. They put up Sheetrock, leveled floors, painted, installed closet doors, did everything that needed doing. And while they worked, they got to know the Wiltzes. When Kenneth Wiltz cut the yellow ribbon that spanned the front door of his house in Gentilly Monday afternoon, he beamed at the crowd gathered on the lawn to celebrate with him and his wife.
